Throughout its history, several questionable recommendations based on the research of the time for making healthier food choices were made early on. A prime example is fat. From the 1950s, recommendations began to encourage the adoption of a low-fat diet for better cardiovascular health. In later years, we learned that fats were actually very important for health, and then the recommendations changed to restrict trans and saturated fats and favor unsaturated fats.
